What are the risks of coal ash?
Coal ash is the second-largest source of industrial waste in the United States, and while it was traditionally released into the air for disposal, air pollution control standards now require it to be captured due to potential adverse effects on waterways, groundwater, drinking water, and air quality. The potential human and ecological effects have prompted new disposal and recycling methods to help lower greenhouse emissions and reduce the potential risks to human health.
